3 Critical Strategies for Digital Marketing Success

I’m a planner. I haven’t always been this way, but something triggered when I realized I had a family and a business to run. I often joke that 90% of my day is preparing to get ready for the next day: ironing clothes, packing lunches, meal planning, making to-do lists for work, finishing blogs, or posting on Facebook. I finally came to the conclusion that I had to plan and organize my life through strategy.

So you may ask “How does strategy in my everyday life compare to my digital marketing strategy?”

Good question! It is vital to the success of your online marketing efforts for your business to plan a strategy for all of your digital marketing campaigns! At On Target, our team has two standing weekly meetings, Tuesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, we discuss OT business, new clients, upcoming client events, OT marketing and social media calendars, and other OT business. On Fridays, we have a “Creative Direction” meeting where we pick several clients and discuss new, out of the box ideas for their digital marketing campaign. It really helps us to strategize as a team and to do it on a consistent basis.

To help you start your digital marketing campaign, I have come up with 3 MUST HAVE marketing strategies.

  1. Social Media– Try to make sure your brand stays consistent throughout all your social media channels. Don’t have your CEO’s picture for LinkedIn, an old logo for Twitter, your office picture for Facebook, and a logo for Instagram. Be sure your message and brand stays consistent throughout all your social media channels. You can achieve this by making a spreadsheet that lists all your social media channels, and make notes on which logo or cover photo you have presently. That way if you change anything, you can change it across all outlets.
  1. Editorial Calendars– When starting an editorial calendar, figure out what is trending online. You can combine your content marketing calendar with your social media calendar to keep your message consistent. For instance, if you make an infographic, post it to your blog and then post the blog link to your social media channels. This can help drive more traffic to your website as well as keep all your social channels consistent with the same brand message.
  1. Paid Advertising– Don’t start a paid campaign just to start one. Look at what keywords are trending, how much they cost, historical data, and budget amounts. This way you can make sure you are getting the most ROI for your dollar. If you have a marketing company, this is one area that is really helpful to get the team’s suggestions and recommendations before starting.

You may be thinking that you don’t have the time to sit down and strategize for your digital presence, but it is something that you really must do. The time you invest now will pay off in the long run. If you need help with your digital marketing efforts, On Target has the expertise and experience to ensure your online strategy is a winning one.
