Use Social Media Responsibly

Now, when I say use social media responsibly, I mean be smart about your social media strategy! We all want to go viral on every social platform and have millions upon millions of followers on each. But that’s not exactly realistic. When you’re creating a social media strategy, create one that’s realistic, manageable, achievable, and allows you to tell your brand story. Be responsible with your plan!

If you’re just starting out creating a social media strategy, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Focus on just a few social networks to get you started; you can always join more platforms later. Most importantly, create a brand personality, tone, and voice now — instead of posting a few months of underwhelming, not engaging social media content.

Don’t Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

If you want to get your brand name out there through social media, you may be compelled to create a social media profile on every platform for your brand. But be careful. Biting off more than you can chew can lead to choking. Instead of trying to master every social media platform, focus on one or two that you can really become an expert at. Find the platform where your target audience is. Every social media network has a slightly different demographic, so find out where your customers are hanging out and create a profile there. Become an expert on those social media networks before you try adding any additional platforms. Once you master your first platforms and start to gain a following that engages with your content, you can branch out into other social media networks.

Establish Your Brand Personality Now

When you’re creating your social media strategy and getting your accounts set up, it’s easy to feel like you need to start posting immediately. You may be thinking “I’ll just start posting so I have some content on my social, and I’ll find the right voice and tone later.” But that’s the irresponsible move to make! Creating your brand personality from the get-go will allow you to evolve and grow that voice over time. Defining your brand voice from the start will also give your social media a cohesive feel to it. I’m not saying you have to pick a brand voice and stick to it forever. As your brand grows and evolves, your brand personality will grow and evolve with it. But don’t wait months or weeks before finding that personality. Be responsible with your social media content, and create that voice now. Your brand personality is how customers are able to make a personal connection with your brand, so it’s important you create that voice early on!

When you’re creating your social media marketing strategy, make sure you plan to use social media responsibly! Don’t bite off more than you can chew and establish your brand personality early to build an engaged social media following. If that sounds overwhelming, don’t worry. We can handle it for you.
