Mix Up a Perfect Blog Post.

A good blog post, like a good martini, doesn’t just happen. It has to be carefully crafted, using the right techniques and first-class ingredients. But you don’t have to be an expert mixologist to make a great martini if you follow the right recipe, and the right content marketing recipe can also help you create better blog postings.

Half an ounce of headline.
Your headline should make a strong impression and draw readers in. Use action words, examples, or even metaphors (like this recipe). Make sure, though, that your headline relates to your topic.

A few generous splashes of persuasion.
When you’re communicating with others, you’re trying to share your viewpoint and your experiences. When you sit down to write, start with your main idea. What’s your point? Are you trying to educate your audience, or get them to see something in a different light? Keep that firmly in mind as you write.

Half an ounce of subheads.
Break up your copy with subheads that lead the reader through your post. A good rule of thumb is that the subheads, if read by themselves, should give your readers a broad synopsis of your post.

A jigger of story.
Your content should follow a natural progression, from beginning, to middle, to the end. Your readers are expecting that structure, and you should provide it. There’s nothing worse than reading something that never provides a satisfying story.

A dash of authenticity.
As the old adage goes, “write what you know.” Use examples and scenarios from your life and career to illustrate your points. Readers value expertise and experience, so show them you have both.

Sprinkle with pictures.
Like subheads, appealing images will break up your content and draw readers through your post. Try for one to four engaging images.

Garnish with a pimento-stuffed closing.
Well, maybe your closing won’t be pimento-stuffed, but it should be a recap of your major points and any actions you think your audience should take, based on the information they just read.

Combine these ingredients, shake, and pour into chilled glasses and serve. Or just hit “post.” At that point, drinking is optional.
