All Hail Podcasts!

A few months ago, I discovered the first good book I’d read in several years, and I became obsessed. And when I say “obsessed,” I mean that I sat at red lights thinking, “maybe I can read just one short paragraph really, really quickly before the light turns green.”

Don’t worry, though — I didn’t read at red lights. I like reading, but I like staying alive and driving safely and not getting tickets more.

Isn’t it great when you find an awesome new book? A story that makes you fall head over heels, tempts you to read at red lights, and completely submerges you in a different world? Your book soulmate? Except, here’s a spoiler alert — even when you find a book that’s “the one,” you can’t read it while you’re driving. (Surprise, right?) And let’s be honest, we can only listen to the same 10 songs on the radio so many times before we start hunting for another source of entertainment.

In the last year, the number of Americans who listen to podcasts in the car increased from 19 to 23 percent. That’s nearly a quarter of the population! On an increasing level, people are opting to use their travel time productively, seeking out podcasts to educate themselves on topics of their choice. This is shown even more when considering that mobile devices alone are responsible for streaming 69 percent of podcasts. However, podcasts aren’t just for the commuter — 49 percent are consumed at home, whether listeners are getting ready for work or preparing dinner.

You may be thinking to yourself, “This is all great, but I really don’t have anything to say for a podcast.”

What? Nothing to Say?

Podcasts are the perfect way to connect with others in your industry and give your brand a personality, but even more importantly, they help establish your company as a thought leader. What better way to demonstrate your credibility than by sharing your knowledge and experience?

Your website already has kickass content (and if it doesn’t, it really should). But have you considered that podcasts can be repurposed to create even more awesome content, which further drives the right audience to your site? Think about it: podcasts can be transcribed into one or multiple blog posts; filmed and shared as a video; included in emails as short audio clips that encourage your audience to tune in; or turned into infographics that are easily shared on social media. You can also share a podcast with the transcript. This increases accessibility for hearing-impaired listeners, helps Google find your podcast, and makes it easier for fans to share their favorite quote with their own network. And to top it all off, good podcasts are evergreen. This means that they are continually relevant and stay “fresh” for listeners.

Now you might be thinking to yourself, “Okay, but even if I did start a podcast, how would I find my audience?” You’re in luck! This is where our expertise comes into play. Out of the 48 million people who listen to podcasts on a weekly basis, we can help you narrow that down and target the right audience. We want to humanize your brand, connect you to the right people, and craft content that tells your story and creates meaningful relationships in the digital world.

There are literally millions of people who search for awesome, high-quality podcasts every week. They’re waiting for you to say something — so what are you waiting for? If we can help you produce a podcast that your mom would be proud of, visit our audio content page to learn more about our mad skills.
